Fresh salad as Americans know it does not seem to exist here. Never on a menu. Today in the pie shop there was a bit of a salad offering. Two women were ordering and both definitely want the coleslaw added on top of the raw veggies, as they said "salad wouldn't be salad with out that".
Last night when ordering the Chinese takeaway I asked about broccoli. The lady seemed surprised. Looked about her and said, no. She almost didn't seem to know what it was. Maybe broccoli has yet to be introduced to the U.K.?
Frank's Bridge across the river Eden.
While down at the river limping around and chatting with a group of 6 who were hiking Ann's Way (100 miles), Jean Pierre came walking up. Guess he recovered enough to proceed. Next came Martin with his dog Sullivan who I had not seen yesterday. He expressed concern over my leg, and I wished him and dog good luck, and no injuries.
Injuries can happen anywhere, doing any sort of sport, just walking down the street, miss stepping in the kitchen.
Talked to a Fish Man selling out of the back of his van. Said he has been coming on Wednesday to this village for 22 years. He meets to boats at the dock at 3 am about 100 miles away.

While sitting by the River Eden waiting for time to pass, suddenly 2 parrots came flying low. It was extremely startling. Began asking questions. Turns out an eccentric man lived in a manor house outside of town and had lots of parrots (100 or more). When he passed away 20 + years ago, there was a Parrot Trust. Apparently the house could be lived in for free provided they took care of the parrots. The birds are free to fly all over and always return in the evening for feeding to Their Manor. Learned that often they can be sitting in clusters on tree tops, roofs and chimneys about town. There are less now than previously. The birds have adapted to the environment and fly about all winter and have not affected the local wild birds st all.
As my taxi arrived I saw one of the C2C couples from day 1 and 2. They had always been quick and striding off into the distance leaving me in their dust. Today they were dressed nicely and carrying shopping bags. Said it was an unplanned "rest" day. They had taken a taxi yesterday from Shap as the woman had something happen to her knee, almost exactly like mine. Offered get well messages back and forth before I was driven off by Alan.
Took one tramadol (first time) and applied Diclofenac to knee.
Not sure what tomorrow will be unfortunately. If I have to take a couple days off, it will be done.
Ate dinner in Keld Lodge next to Shannon (daughter) and Cindy (mother) from New Jersey. First saw/followed them up from Black Sail Youth Hostel, they were the two wearing red rain jackets off in the distance. Interesting learning about Shannon. She is 27, has traveled a lot around the world. Talked about India, maybe South Africa, and most recently Morroco where she spent a month or more this past winter. They both are good walkers.
Elevation graph for what these legs Did Not Walk. So sad.
