West Cote, Clay Bsnk Top to Red House Farm, Glaisdale.
Officially 18.6 miles, but I only did the first 9, and was pleased to do that much (medication works).
At breakfast Hilda and Marie asked for the cheese platter. Knew from experience that Judy would give a very in depth description of each. She did. I took notes but will not add them here
Learned the dark jelly type lump is really a cheese made from the juices and poured into a mold. Tasty with other cheeses or cold meats.
In 1066 monks brought the cheese making skills to Britain from wherever they came from. Before that local people made only a cheese related to cottage cheese.
Gouda cheese here is called goudder.
Judy by her Aga stove.
Salt and pepper
Judy lecturing to Hilda on the difference in cheese.
It was very tasty, very gingery. A
Judy and Stuart this morning.
Judy and Stuart 4 years ago.
I WALKED. It was a stiff long climb up to the ridge line, but the path was paved in stones. Took half an hour to reach the top. Dense fog all day.
Learned that Stuart, who does hiking and mountain hiking will not return to Striding Edge, ever. Back in 1998 he was up there with a friend of Fell over the narrow edge and landed 1000 feet below. Death like that can leave a lasting memory.
Most of today's walk was on the firmer train track line, now removed.
Where would a CCTV camera be placed in all the vast open moor land? Attached to sheep?
Peter and his son Nat whom I had last seen at the Black Sail Youth Hostel on day 2. Nat wasn't feeling well. Thought it might have been the kippers he had for breakfast.
This is exactly what it looked like for 4 hours of walking, and this is when the clouds sort of lifted.
What the Packhorse van looks like that transports luggage and I rode in the other day.
Lion Inn where I waited for two hours for a taxi to appear to take Nat to Glaisdale. Peter the father continued walking. Lois rode the taxi. Best plan for bad knees.
Large dog in Lion Inn.
Good bye Kieran, Rob/Bob and Dave. They will get to Robin Hoods Bay tomorrow.
Learned that Martin and his dog Sullivan might have had to stop walking as the dog had gone lame.
Paul and Naomi who are staying here at Ted House Farm graciously gave me a ride with them to dinner at the Arncliff Arms. Really helped the knees.
Today would have been my cousin Robert's birthday. Unfortunately he passed away about a month ago.
